Human beings always pursuit more realistic and natural visual requirements, and the stereoscopic display technology is constantly improving. Among them, the naked-eye is the most mainstream in the market, which has the advantage of not wearing glasses and higher flexibility. The dual-view display changes the distance between the eyes to the double views that can be designed by yourself. From the image information that was distributed to the left and right eyes, it can provide two different images to at least two users on a single display at the same time. In recent years, the advancement of flexible substrate technology has brought attention to the issue of curved display. Curved displays provide screen-enlarged perception and ability to the curve design which comforts our visual experience. Therefore, in the progress of providing a more natural and comfortable visual experience, a curved dual-view display is highly expected in the future.
For the naked-eye dual-view display, viewing position and the range nearby strongly affect image quality. Viewing zone describes the range that a viewer could move while experiencing two different image information in front of the display.
Regarding a curved dual-view display, radius and viewing angle of the screen determine the relative degree of bending, by which the spatial light distribution is determined. In addition, this is a key factor influencing image quality, especially for the display which directs the views for left and right viewing areas based on different images.
In this thesis, the formula for a curved barrier-type dual-view display will be derived, based on previous research on the calculation of viewing position and viewing zone for a planer barrier-type autostereoscopic display. Furthermore, with the aid of the ray-tracing software, the viewing zone will also be depicted and discussed as given different curvature radius or viewing angle of the screen with refractive index substrate. Finally, the image quality will be discussed by considering crosstalk and uniformity in each case.
The purpose of this thesis is to provide a parameter-design reference for a curved dual-view display. We look forward to the advance in curved dual-view display, and the contribution of this thesis to further research on curved dual-view display.
