dc.description.abstractWith the advent of crowdsourced information, and the technology to accommodate its real-time interaction, the internet has become an indispensable resource for everyday decision making, as well as for socializing. Rating and review websites have risen to satisfy the scarcity of information back when people were still dependent on the word-of-mouth opinions of the few. As such, 老師好! (LSH) is a web platform for rating and reviewing instructors. It is a structured, and organized repository for students to discuss the learning experiences they have had with previous teachers, or to find suitable teachers for their future learning needs.
LSH has selected Taiwan as the initial market, because of the importance the culture places upon education, and because a large demand for instructor information is apparent from discussion boards. While there exists several small rating and review platforms in this market, most are poorly designed, and lack statistical aggregations among other intuitive functions. Further, all are restricted to particular college level institutions, and none have a substantial amount of visitor traffic. LSH is thus built from the ground up to supplant the competition by addressing these shortcomings, and to accommodate the rating of any type of instructor, at any institution.
As a cloud based platform that will primarily derive its revenues from website advertisement, LSH can be inexpensive to maintain, but will at the same time yield a narrow contribution margin. This, however, can be overcome by its inherent platform scalability, whereby the potential of LSH becomes virtually limitless under an international scope. In addition, secondary revenue streams will be implemented to maximize profit.
