Title:
Studies of Feeding Mechanism and Feeding Habits of Red Sea Bream Chrysophrys major T&S Found in the Waters of Pescaderes Islands
Authors:
Publication Year : 1971
Degree: 碩士
Abstract: 1.
The feeding mechanism of red sea bream and the relationship between body length (or Head length) and digestive organs were given in this paper. Feeding habits was surveyed through quantitative and qualitative analysis of stomach contents. Number of gill rakers ranges from 12 to 19, and the mode is 17. The relationship between the body length and the digestive organs of the fishes measured from 128 mm to 585 mm in body length was found to be linear. Having their intestines shorter than their bodies, conical like and granular teeth on their jaws, and coarse gill structure, the red sea bream is generally considered to be carnivorous. According to the feeding patterns, the empty stomach of the red sea bream constituted a higher percentage in the status of stomach examined. Most of the food organisms were small, sedentary or slow moving benthonic animals1, such as shrimps, crabs, squids, and sea lilies.
