生殖生物學的研究可以瞭解魚種族群動態之資訊,提供資源評估所需的參數,以確保魚種資源之永續利用。本研究以西太平洋黃鰭鮪(Thunnus albacares)為對象,探討其生殖生物學的特性。自2001年9月至2002年9月止,按月到屏東縣東港魚市場採樣,總計測量1,751尾臺灣近海鮪延繩釣黃鰭鮪之體長、體重等資料,並取回生殖腺樣本1,455尾(雄性782尾;雌性673尾),樣本尾叉長(FL)範圍為64 ~ 166 cm。經卡方檢定月別、體長別和年齡別間性比,結果顯示兩年採樣各月別間沒有顯著差異,然而年總性比皆與1:1有顯著性差異,雄魚所佔比例稍高;體長別及年齡別間性比有顯著差異,體長大於138 cm以上或年齡大於4歲以上時,雄魚所佔的比例有顯著較高。本研究利用組織學與解剖學之方法探討魚種生殖腺成熟過程,並配合生殖腺成熟指數(gonadosomatic index)與平均卵徑的月別變化,推測西太平洋黃鰭鮪為終年產卵,以2 ~ 6月為盛卵期。估計西太平洋黃鰭鮪雌魚50%性成熟體長為107.77 cm;而雄魚只發現當體長達112.5 cm以上皆為成熟魚。
在魚體卵巢中卵徑組成呈連續多峰分布且同時並存不同發育階段之卵細胞,顯示黃鰭鮪屬多次產卵。根據卵巢內排卵後濾泡(postovulatory follicles)退化特徵,估算雌性成熟魚的產卵比例為0.59,換算產卵頻率(spawning frequency)平均約為1.69天;若以有生殖活動(reproductive activity)之雌魚來推估則約為1.33天,故黃鰭鮪於生殖期間接近每日產卵一次。平均單次產卵孕卵數為2.71百萬粒卵,平均相對孕卵數(relative fecundity)為每克雌魚體重含有62.1粒卵細胞。單次產卵孕卵數(YBF)與體長(FL)和體重(W)的關係式分別為:YBF=4.46×10-9 FL 4.16及YBF = 1.18×10-2 W 1.43,顯示單次產卵孕卵數會隨體長或體重增加而增加。
