As the financial pressure is very high in the semiconductor manufacturing industry, there are strong needs to control the supply chains under uncertainties. Advanced information has been shown in many studies to be effective in improving the operation performance of supply chains. In this thesis, we develop an optimal control model for the semiconductor supply chains by using the advanced information of channel inventory. In the first part of this research, applications of advanced information in supply chain management are reviewed. In the second part, excess channel inventory information of semiconductor microchips and its feasibility and utility as an instrument for supply chain control are analyzed. In the final part, a flow time transient behavior model under short term inventory adjustment and mathematical optimal control model are described which is used to identify the stress point of the supply chains when the channel inventory undergoes adjustment. And using a numerical example to explain and compare three adjustment policies to show there is an optimal strategy of inventory adjustment. |
