本研究所採取的是性別研究的觀點，旨在探討男性焦慮對浪漫時期詩人濟慈所造成的影響，這些影響包括他在現實生活中與女性的關係以及他在作品中對女性角色的呈現。本研究主要分為三章。在第一章中，討論十八世紀末十九世紀初，文學論述的改變以及女性文人(包括作者與讀者)的興起，如何帶給當時的男性文人男性焦慮，以及他們處理焦慮的方式。在第二章中，討論濟慈身為一個新興中產階級作家，為何特別容易被批評為女性化。面對這樣的批評，濟慈一直希望藉由與女性化清界線，或是展現優於他們的權力，來證明自己的男子氣慨。以濟慈的信件當作主要證據，探討他與女性作家以及讀者的權力鬥爭，並分析這樣的鬥爭如何對他與愛人間的關係造成影響。在第三章中，主要討論濟慈四部作品，Endymion, The Eve of St. Agnes, Lamia, The Fall of Hyperion，中對於女性角色的呈現。這些作品皆顯示出濟慈一方面對女性力量崇拜，但另一方面又希望透過對這個力量的掌控和挪用，來展現自己成熟的男性氣慨。一直到The Fall of Hyperion，他才發展出一個模式，在此模式之中，男性力量的展現並不奠基在否認或是挪用女性力量之上，相反的，此模式對於女性力量的獨特性給予很高的尊重。縱使濟慈在最後的作品中，仍未跳脫男性中心的意識形態，但透過本研究，我們所得到結論是，男性焦慮有時也可能是刺激男性文人發展新型態的兩性模式的動力。 | zh_TW |
