Today, the People’s Republic of China’s (PRC) economy is experiencing the most tremendous growth in the world. Because of this, more and more Westerners are flocking to China to take advantage of this new global hotspot. However, many foreigners are unfamiliar with Chinese cultural values, way of thinking and business practices. As the number of expatriate managers increase, it is important to for them to understand the cultural characteristics and norms that fuel everyday business practices in China. More importantly, foreign managers need to learn how to effectively motivate their Chinese employees.
Analysis and conclusions from this dissertation are specifically directed towards foreign managers in China with the hopes that it can educate, assist, and aid in the development of suitable motivational strategies for Chinese employees. The knowledge provided could help expatriates effectively and efficiently manage employees from the fascinating and complex country that is the People’s Republic of China.
