Ankylopterygini are mainly distributed in the Oriental and Australian regions. There are about 90 species belonging to 5 genera in this group. Their wings are usually marked with dark patches which are various among species. The latest taxonomic research of Taiwanese lacewings by Stange and Wang did not provide detailed descriptions. On the other hand, most original citations of species in Taiwan were insufficient for identification and species status confirming. Therefore, studies about Taiwanese species should follow the revision papers of neighboring fauna like of China, Japan and the Philippine. Since Taiwan is an island between Sino-Japanese and Oriental region, the species diversity is lower than that in the continents but endemic species are otherwise much more. Therefore the species composition in Taiwan would be different to adjacency which makes detailed survey and review required for taxonomic research on Taiwanese lacewings.
This study redescribed nine recorded species and four new species, and provided key of Taiwanese species in Ankylopterygini. The ecology of different species was discussed. We found most species of Ankylopterygini in Taiwan are nocturnal and do not present phototaxis, and some species are attracted by methyl eugenol. According to literature review, we found the generic vertical distribution of Taiwanese Ankylopterygini diversity is consistence with the distribution patterns of East Asia, Southeast Asia and Australia. This study is the first report about disjunct distribution pattern of Taiwanese chrysopids which would help future research on origination and radiation of Ankylopterygini.
