CRI Special Lists 地理空間視覺化檢索系統

Abstract

The Chinese Recorder (CR) 是一套重要刊物，對於研究近代基督教在中國發展歷史與近代中國史很有幫助，但因為索引缺乏系統性整理，無法跨冊查詢，所以作為研究工具不易使用。 The Chinese Recorder Index (CRI) 設計了index與tag架構與6份Special lists改善CR的使用問題，雖然預期是可行的，但實際使用上有時候因為條目內容過多，使用者無法掌握這麼多資訊導致index與tag的功能打折扣，有時候沒有達到該有的成效。 Chinese Recorder Index Search Engine (CRISE) 數位化CRI前面的index與tag部分，利用Record資料結構拆解index與tag，並整理同頁碼上的提到的所有條目，讓使用者不再需要在CRI裡反覆翻找。CRISE整理出約1,400個地點但缺少空間視覺化呈現，另外也缺少CRI後面的6份Special lists。 本研究將焦點放在前3份special lists上，擷取出三大群體Person、Mission/Organization、Location，整理只在index出現或只在lists出現的條目，分析lists帶來的條目關係，設計檢索模型，將檢索結果分類呈現在網頁上的分頁與地圖上，部分補足CRISE空間視覺化呈現與缺少lists資料的問題。

The Chinese Recorder (CR) is an important journal which is helpful for the study of Christianity in China and modern Chinese history. However, CR is hard due to its large number of volumes (73) and long history (1867-1941). The Chinese Recorder Index (CRI), produced by Kathleen L. Lodwick in 1986, with tailored index-tag design and 6 special lists is a significant companion for using CR. Its 3 tagged indexes make finding articles much easier than before. However, CRI itself has more than 1,000 pages. The sheer volume and the lack of cross-references makes it unwieldy for scholarly use. Chinese Recorder Index Search Engine (CRISE) digitized the Indexes of CRI, cross-referenced the tags in the indexes and reassembled them into the Record data structure. CRISE also connects provides all the entries mentioned on the same page or in the same page range of CR. Although CRISE recontextualized the indexes, it did not utilize the 6 lists also described in CRI. Neither did it identify the 1,400 locations mentioned in CRI on the map. This thesis incorporates the first 3 special lists, the list of Persons, Missions/Organizations and Locations into CRISE. We analyze the relationship between entries of the lists and the differences of composition between index-tag part and lists part, develop an entries search model and show the result on a web page composed of tabs of list and a map. We also identify the locations at the provincial level. This way, we provide a geospatial visualization and the special lists data in CRISE.
