dc.description.abstract | Cloud computing is a hot topic today. The economic benefits have been discussed in depth by scholars and business alike. However is it my opinion that while a lot of people are talking about the benefits, not everyone understands how to realize these benefits and actually make the transition to cloud computing. How do we make all this cloud theory become reality when, in fact, a lack of practical skills in cloud computing are some of the top CIO concerns today (Lack of Cloud Computing Skills concerns CIOs). The timing of this paper comes at a point when the theories of cloud computing which came about in the late 2000’s are now gaining practical implementations thanks to various vendors in the IT industry.
This paper acts to be the bridge between the theory and the practical implementation of cloud computing. We will look into the ‘how’ of computing using a practical discussion to enlighten the reader on the steps required to move towards a cloud computing environment. We will look at how to choose a cloud architecture model based on your organizations requirements. We will then move towards making that a reality by gaining an understanding of the technologies required, while leveraging your existing technology investments, as well as utilizing what is available in the market today. By the end of the paper, the reader should have a good understanding of the technologies in the market today, as well as working understanding of how they should be implemented. | en |
