"The Legacy" addresses Taiwan's critical business succession challenge through an innovative digital platform connecting business owners with potential buyers. As Taiwan faces rapid population aging and declining birth rates, many small and medium enterprises (SMEs) risk closure due to succession difficulties. The platform provides a structured solution for business owners who face substantial severance payment obligations upon closure, creating a compelling alternative through successful ownership transfer.
Drawing inspiration from Japan's successful approach to similar demographic challenges, The Legacy offers a user-friendly marketplace with comprehensive support services, including business valuations, financial assessments, and legal guidance. The platform emphasizes trust and transparency through robust verification processes and third-party mediation services, ensuring security for all parties involved.
Extensive primary research, including interviews with healthcare leaders, travel agency executives, and M&A professionals, has validated the platform's approach and shaped its features. These stakeholders consistently emphasized the importance of confidentiality, trust, and professional support throughout the succession process. Strategic analysis reveals favorable conditions for the platform's success, supported by Taiwan's high digital adoption rates and government initiatives promoting SME continuity.
The Legacy's growth strategy follows a three-phase approach. During the first two years, the platform will focus on serving middle-class professionals and SME transactions through a transaction-based revenue model with no upfront fees. By the third year, the platform will expand to handle larger business transactions, supported by internal professional services and AI-powered matching algorithms. Financial projections show transaction values growing from NT$150M in the first year to NT$900M by the third year, with commission revenue increasing from NT$7.5M to NT$45M during this period.
Through its comprehensive approach and focus on trust-building, The Legacy aims to become the premier solution for business succession in Taiwan. The platform will help maintain business continuity, support economic stability, and create new entrepreneurial opportunities, with the potential for future expansion into other Asian markets facing similar demographic challenges. This strategic positioning ensures The Legacy's vital role in preserving Taiwan's SME sector while addressing the pressing challenges of demographic change.
