Chinese Abstract.

English Abstract.

Recently, the global generation of electronic waste (e-waste) has significantly increased, extending to regions such as Africa, including Tanzania. Despite containing hazardous substances, E-waste is a repository of valuable resources in significant quantities. As such, proper and precise recycling and treatment of e-waste harbor the potential to mitigate environmental pollution while concurrently conferring economic benefits.
However, like many other developing countries, Tanzania needs more skilled personnel, technology, and infrastructure to handle e-waste management challenges. Tanzania currently relies on informal sectors with limited capacities for collection, transportation, storage, and dismantling, often resulting in the export of e-waste to other countries for recycling. This study evaluates the economic potential of mobile phone recycling in Tanzania, representing the first comprehensive analysis of the country's e-waste recycling economy.
The data collection and analysis methodology in Tanzania's e-waste context relies on information gathered through consultations with key stakeholders, including the National Environmental Management Council E-waste manager personnel.
The results of the analysis show that integrating effective management measures and technological interventions facilitates and promotes the e-waste recycling economy in Tanzania. Additionally, this study estimated the scale and distribution of Tanzania's e-waste recycling economy. Furthermore, the study formulated outcome evaluation indicators tailored to Tanzania's e-waste recycling economy, serving as references and guiding principles for advancement and continuous improvement.
This research not only aids potential investors in comprehending the economic potential of recycling e-waste, especially End-of-Life mobile phones, but also benefits the government as a stakeholder in decision-making processes. The overall goal is to foster a circular economy approach to e-waste management, simultaneously addressing environmental concerns and promoting economic growth in the region.

Keywords: E-waste, E-waste management, Economic potential, E-waste recycling.
