| zh_TW |
dc.description.abstract | This paper examines the correlation between demographic structure and economic growth, and the impacts as well as the trend of crude birth rate and crude death rate on economic growth recently. Utilizing historical data from 1960 to 2019, the regression results show that when crude birth rates increase, in the short term, it has negative effects on economic growth since parents have to spend time taking care of children. However, in the long term, when children grow up and become labor force, it has positive effects on economic development. Besides, adult mortality rate has negative effects on economic growth due to reduced labor supply, while infant mortality rate has positive effects on economic growth since the burden of childrearing is released. The results also indicate that the negative effects of crude birth rate on economic growth in developed countries become larger recently, which probably is due to the increasing costs of raising and providing education to children. Furthermore, the impacts of crude birth rate and crude death rate on economic growth of less developed countries count more than developed countries. | en |
