| zh_TW |
dc.description.abstract | Cataloging ethics is a set of principles and values that provide guidance to cataloging professionals when making decisions. Given the influence of cataloging work on access to resource and the quality of library catalogs, catalogers should possess not only knowledge and skills but strong foundation of ethics to ensure appropriate cataloging decisions. Recently, there has been growing interest in cataloging ethics in the international academic and library communities. However, there still lacks research from the perspectives of cataloging librarians and scholars.
Therefore, the study uses modified Delphi method, which includes a literature review to identify several values and invites 16 catalogers with at least 3 years of cataloging experience to evaluate the importance. Besides, an open-ended questionnaire is used to collect practical experiences when facing ethical challenges and their sources of consultation. Through 2 rounds of questionnaires, 14 ethical values are identified to be emphasize when cataloging, which involve various aspects such as bibliographic work, librarians' competencies, and readers. Furthermore, the feedback from practical experiences confirms the diversity and uncertainty of ethical dilemmas, and reveals that catalogers primarily consult reference materials and peers when facing ethical issues. This research not only provides insights into the current understanding of cataloging ethics among catalogers in our country but also serves as a reference for future planning of cataloging education based on the research findings. | en |
