摘要: | none Remote work has become widely adopted in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and related public health measures. Even though the pandemic has abated in much of the world, remote work has now become a seemingly permanent part of the “new normal”. However, while many studies have explored how remote work affects outcomes such as productivity, employee satisfaction, and work/life balance, the effect of remote work on innovation is still understudied. Innovation is considered one of the key factors in firm competitiveness and performance, yet only a handful of studies directly measure what happens to innovation in the context of remote work. This study adds to the small yet growing body of literature that looks at the effects of remote work on innovation by utilizing a cross-sectional survey to investigate innovation in office, hybrid, and remote work modes. One hundred professionals in the United States completed an online questionnaire about their innovative behavior in different work modes during the pandemic. Survey responses reveal that participants reported higher innovative work behavior when working in a remote or hybrid mode as opposed to in the office. These exploratory findings provide inspiration for future areas of research, including the ways creative thinking and idea generation increase when working remotely, which drivers of innovation are specific to remote work, and suggestions for future study methodologies. |
