摘要: | In the past years, mobile data usage over cellular networks has greatly
risen. Offloading traffic from cellular networks to Wi-Fi is an alternative to balance network resource. In this study, we implemented a network measurement application in an Android-based smartphone and measured the connectivity of the Wi-Fi mobility in an outdoor environment. Results showed that the disconnection period was about 39.6 seconds on average, which diminishes user experience. This study focuses on finding the key factors that influence Wi-Fi connectivity by measuring each period of Wi-Fi operations for mobile users. After analyzing the cause of long periods, we developed a low-power method to fetch moving hint and perform scans efficiently. Based on the experiments results, our approach is more energy-efficient for access points (APs) discovery than the default scan policy. |
