人們面對每天排山倒海湧進的資訊洪流,對資訊系統與資訊服務的期望不僅在於儲存大量資訊,更在於能讓人們以最有效率的方式獲取所需資訊進而解決問題;然而從預期到實際的資訊系統使用情形往往歷經各種變化。正面的變化對問題的解決有所啟示;負面的變化則徒增使用者時間與精力的耗費。
本研究旨在基於使用者的角度,藉由對系統互動前後終端使用者檢索詞彙、概念與問題「變化」的深入探討,指出使用者預計與實際應用於系統的落差情形與影響因素。主要目的在於瞭解使用者檢索過程中變化行為背後的思考方式,並對系統設計或使用指導理念的改進有所啟示,進而縮小負面的落差或促成正面的變化,節省使用者耗費在檢索上的時間精力,提高其完成整個任務的效率。
本研究採取實證方式的質化研究取向,以PsycLIT心理學文獻光碟資料庫作為研究工具;以台大心理學研究所碩士班研究生為研究對象;研究方法兼採文獻分析法、問卷法、訪談法、觀察法、查詢記錄分析法、深度訪談法以及關鍵事件回溯法,進行資料的蒐集、分析、編碼與詮釋。
研究期間共蒐集30位具資訊需求的受試者進行的30次有效檢索互動過程,依研究目的配合所採系統的特性,並強調使用者認知與所處情境,發展出檢索詞彙回饋、規模回饋、檢索敘述回顧回饋、檢出結果回饋、指引回饋、認知回饋與感受回饋等七個互動回饋類型及其細類作為探討檢索互動變化因素的分析架構。
研究結果發現在檢索詞彙變化方面,檢索前後有121%的成長量,檢索前後平均僅有40.5%的詞彙相同,歸納得出「從有到無」、「使用變化」與「從無到有」三種變化類型,其中「使用變化」包括12種變化亞型與「更正型」、「轉換型」與「調整型」等三種變化功能;在檢索概念的變化上,歸納得出「從廣泛到專指」、「從專指到廣泛」、「新增」、「刪減」與「合併」等五種變化類型;檢索問題的變化則分廣狹義二層次加以探討。另探討檢索問題、概念與詞彙三者之間的演變變化發現本研究的受試者從檢索問題之中劃分檢索概念的方式有二:依據檢索概念間的組合關係與研究設計中的要項;而從各檢索概念之下列舉檢索詞彙的方式,則是依據複雜程度分為「單純型」、「周延型」與「混合型」三種。
將影響變化的理由加上發生頻率的因素進一步分析後發現,詞彙變化方面,以「從無到有」最多;「從有到無」居次;「使用變化」最少。其影響變化的因素各以持「新詞彙可表達更廣泛(或更專指)意義」、「認為原詞彙填寫的呈現方式或檢索敘述不合系統語法而更正之」與「放棄使用廣義詞」理由的人數最多。在使用變化亞型中,以「近義詞變化」的出現次數最多;變化功能類型方面,以「轉換型」的出現次數最多,其次為「更正型」;「調整型」最少。概念變化方面,發生頻率由多至少依次為「從專指到廣泛」、「從廣泛到專指」、「新增」、「合併」與「刪減」;其影響變化的因素各以持「思及更廣泛地表達概念的詞彙」、「思及更精確地表達概念的詞彙組合」、「思及檢索問題曾提及的部分」、「思及意義跨二概念且符合檢索目的之詞彙」與「就檢索目的的考量認為無須再使用該概念」理由的人數最多。問題變化方面,分佈上以廣義的變化為主,狹義的變化為輔;變化的情形各以「確認研究主題可行性」與「增刪研究變項」的人數最多。
大部分影響變化的互動回饋類型出現頻率最多者均為「認知回饋」,尤其是「與檢索目的有關的認知回饋」;出現頻率居次者,在「檢索詞彙從有到無變化」、「檢索概念從廣泛到專指」與「檢索概念的刪減」均為規模回饋;「檢索詞彙從無到有變化」與「檢索概念從專指到廣泛」為對應至主題詞的檢索詞彙回饋;「廣義的檢索問題變化」則為檢出結果回饋。影響遍及各種變化的互動回饋細類僅有「檢出結果回饋」及「與檢索目的有關的認知回饋」兩種;而影響僅限於單一變化的互動回饋細類包括:「輸入英文確認拼字的檢索詞彙回饋」與「檢索敘述回顧回饋」僅影響「檢索詞彙使用變化」;以及「檢出書目記錄欄位再檢索功能」與「輸入已知的中文,查詢其英文拼字的檢索詞彙回饋」僅影響「概念從專指到廣泛變化」。
依據研究結果提出對一般西文書目檢索系統及PsycLIT系統設計的建議計有:協助建立適當的檢索策略;在現有功能上增加更多的參考資訊;開發更有效的限制檢索功能;加強偵錯功能;改善檢索介面的設計與呈現以及發展智慧化的功能等項。對研究設計的建議則包括採用錄影方式記錄檢索互動過程;檢索系統操作說明應更標準化;訪談前應先界定表達檢索行為的用語以及利用遠端檢索時應注意的事項。
