| zh_TW |
dc.description.abstract | This research examines the influence of innovation performance (R D expenses and the number of patents) on firm performance along with the moderating effects on the relationship between dynamic capabilities and firm size. This research focuses on listed electronic firms in Taiwan which have been ranked in “Annual Top 100 Patent Rankings” by the Intellectual Property Office of the Ministry of Economic Affairs from 2010-2018 the patents of which include invention patents, utility model patents and design patents. This research sample includes 248 observations and 77 firms. The following are the primary findings from a quantitative analysis:
1.A one-year time lag effect of innovation output has a significant impact on firm performance, as does a two-year time lag effect of innovation input. It shows that higher innovation performance leads to a greater competitive advantage and profit. 2.Dynamic capabilities moderate the relationship between the innovation input and firm performance, as well as the relationship between the innovation output and firm performance. The results show that the positive relationship is stronger when dynamic capabilities are high but weaker when they are low. 3.Firm size moderates the relationship between the innovation input and firm performance, and the significantly positive relationship is stronger when firm size is large but weaker when it is small. Firm size has an insignificant impact on the relationship between the innovation output and firm performance due to the characteristics of patents, which include difference in patent value, convoluted patent value calculation and high maintenance costs. 4.This research suggests that when a small firm size with high dynamic capabilities chooses a strategy focused on expanding patents, firm performance is not negatively impacted. | en |
