| zh_TW |
dc.description.abstract | The International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) estimates 61% of the population will live in cities by 2030. Due to urbanization, parks and greenspaces are not only important recreational areas, but also wildlife habitats. This study surveyed 537 city residents in National Taiwan University, Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Daan Forest Park and the Youth Park to examine the impact of Malayan night herons, a species commonly seen in parks and school areas, on wildlife value orientation and conservation attitudes across different socioeconomic backgrounds and locations. A laboratory test was performed to measure emotional responses of 36 individuals to different videos with an environmental theme. Videos included urban buildings, parks and greenspaces, and both banded and unbanded Malayan night herons. The experiment collects emotional experience and brainwaves values.
Analysis of questionnaire results showed gender was not a main factor while age showed that older generations had a wildlife value orientation higher than younger people. Wildlife value orientation and conservation attitude positively corresponded with education level indicating that social experience and educational degree impacted scores. The higher recreational frequencies, natural observation experiences and ecological society experience, whose wildlife value orientation and conservation attitude scored higher, indicated natural experience is an impact factor. In the results of psychophysiology measurement, viewer response to the Malayan night heron video showed more positive emotional experiences over other videos and pre-test results. During these moments; alpha brainwaves rose and beta brainwaves fell, indicating the viewer was in a relaxed state. By knowing city residents’ different wildlife value orientation, conservation attitude, emotional experience and psychophysiology, ecological urbanization and environmental education could be more efficiently implemented, and parks and greenspaces management could be enhanced. | en |
