In the age of knowledge economy and globalization, the application of knowledge innovation has been an essential source for economy growth and laying the foundation for building competitiveness in many countries. The realization of academic research often plays an important role in leading the industry to upgrade by introducing new technology. However, the gap of technology innovation activities between the academy and industy is still an issue that remains to be resolved. Therefore, this case study aims to understand the college professor's success in academic entrepreneurship and categorize the innovation activities into three types, which are technology, business, and institute innovation. The study analyzes the context behind the case by introducing these three types of innovation, and discovers the implications for academic entrepreneurship decision-making. The result of the analysis indicates that technology innovation is the foundation for business innovation, and institute innovation should be conducted based on the change of environment and demand for resource. The accumulation of practical resource and transforming them into actionable plans are also of importance for the management of academic entrepreneurship. The critical elements include the improvement of professional knowledge, capability of continuos learning, management skills and experience, relationship with the industry, integration of academic resources, and the support from administrative and research insitutes. |
