This thesis develops power management strategies for a distributed hybrid power system. A distributed hybrid power system consists of fuel cell vehicles (FCVs), immovable power stations, and a control center. The FCVs can move among the immovable power stations to supply extra power. We develop the power management strategies to schedule FCVs to effectively supply sustainable power to multiple power stations. First, we modify the previous MATLAB SimPowerSystemTM model by dynamic equations to simulate the responses of the distributed hybrid power system in a more efficient way. Second, we develop the power management strategies of FCVs, including the priority management, schedule arrangement, and power supply. These power management strategies are integrated as Priority Management Algorithms (PMAs). By applying PMAs to the distributed hybrid power systems, the FCVs could effectively supply power to the immovable stations. We evaluate system performance and show that system cost can be significantly reduced by about 20% by the proposed PMAs. Third, we apply the genetic algorithm to optimize the power management parameters. Lastly, we conduct experiments with hardware-in-the-loop, where the immovable power stations are simulated in a MATLAB Simulink and the FCV is physically controlled to supply supplementary power to the stations. We implement the developed power management strategies and demonstrate the feasibility of the distributed hybrid power system. |
