| zh_TW |
| dc.description.abstract | Wireless Internet technology was born under the circumstances where the mammoth network data and ubiquitous network access encountered. On the brink of telecommunication revolution, Taiwan government launched the national program – M(obile)-Taiwan program to participate in the evolution to further E(lectronic)-commerce to U(biquitous)-commerce. WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability of Microwave Access) is the preferred technology in such a governmental initiative. With the issuance of six WiMAX licenses for service operation as part of M-Taiwan program, Taiwan electro-manufacturing industry was inspired to complement the ecosystem with upstream chip design and midstream product commercialization.
With the leverage of Taiwan government promotion and mobile technology trend, Taiwan electronic manufacturing ecosystem accompanied with decades of electronic manufacturing expertise continues the technology race in global market. This study aims at examining the strategies of Taiwan WiMAXers in this emerging telecommunication industry. The firms in this study are Taiwan WiMax manufacturers, including the network equipment companies and the related peripheral manufacturers in this industrial sector. Through considerations of business internalities and externalities, corporate interviews were designed to reveal local WiMAXers' strategies and competitiveness in the dawn of ubiquitous economy for more explorations in Taiwan WiMAX industry. The value proposition in global supply chain was then discussed for the upstream and midstream of Taiwan WiMAX manufacturing industry. The product concentration, trend of business development and position of Taiwan WiMAXers in the global value chain were also analyzed. Furthermore, industry discussions and observations were rendered by the rule of evolution introduced in the select management models. | en |
