Single beam echo-sounding is commonly used to investigate coastal change in shallow water. In order to avoid recognizing bathymetric change caused by surveying error, error analysis is essential. The most important part of using single beam echo-sounding data is to check if there is settlement effect during the measurement. The settlement effect is relatively position change of transducer depth, which may be caused by the followings: assemble error, draft change, sail following or against waves. Error analysis may not discover the settlement effect. Therefore, we check the error from settlement effect by comparing topographical profiles obtained in different survey period. Base on the result of error analysis, topographical difference of less than 0.3 meters is assumed there is no topographical change in the calculated period of time. Offshore Zhunan coast, results indicate the topography of offshore area is stable. Nearshore area is mainly affected by longshore current. Current direction and sediment supply would lead seafloor to change. Sand bars would become bigger or smaller and have some movement in the direction vertical to shoreline |
