摘要: | 鼻煙原產於美洲,約在十七世紀自歐洲傳入中國後,在清宮裡迅速流行,因此衍生多元、豐富的變化的鼻煙容器。學者們對於清宮鼻煙壺的研究,提示了諸多研究方向,但關於鼻煙壺的形製來源、鼻煙壺本身的形式演變、及鼻煙壺在清宮的使用及意涵等議題,仍有許多問題尚未釐清。
本論文從觀察實物作品出發,試圖釐清鼻煙壺在康雍乾三朝不同階段性的成果,主要討論議題有三:(一)康熙朝鼻煙壺的創製:依據兩岸故宮所留存之歐洲鼻煙容器,討論眾多歐洲鼻煙容器進入清宮後,清宮如何吸收歐洲「玻璃小瓶」之器形、密封方式,以及可攜性等特點,最後製作出清代典型的鼻煙壺;(二)鼻煙壺在清宮的發展:欲突破過去將鼻煙壺之風格分析,附屬在各材質發展之泛論框架之侷限。以《養心殿造辦處各作成做活計清檔》之文獻記載與兩岸故宮舊藏實物相互對照,試圖歸納出康熙至乾隆三朝鼻煙壺的共同特性、時代之風格發展和轉變;(三)鼻煙壺文化意涵之形塑:透過分析檔案文獻及相關視覺圖像,講述鼻煙壺與社會意涵的關係,重構鼻煙壺如何成為中國文化之一部分的具體過程。最後,企圖從一較廣的視角,將清代之鼻煙壺文化放入十七至十八世紀各國不同文化意義交錯的傳播網絡中,以呈現鼻煙容器在不同地域呈現之面貌,及其象徵意義。 Originating in the Americas, snuff became popular across the Qing court soon after being introduced to China through Europe in the second half of the seventeenth century. The prevalence of snuff induced demand and production for snuff containers with a diversity of forms. Previous studies have investigated several research directions for snuff bottles in the Qing court, however issues regarding origin of these forms, their changes in style through time, and their practices and meanings in the Qing court still have room to be further explored. Beginning with observation on surviving snuff bottles, this study attempts to clarify changes and development under the reigns of three emperors, Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong. The objective in this paper is divided into three parts: (1) The production of snuff bottles in Kangxi era: Based on the surviving European snuff containers among the collections in National Palace Museum in Taipei and the Palace Museum in Beijing, this chapter discusses the becoming of the typical snuff bottles in the Qing court after absorbing certain European characteristics—forms of “tiny glass bottles,” sealing technique, and portable application. (2) The development of snuff bottles in the Qing court: Different from those general discussion on the materials of snuff bottles having been described in the early studies, this chapter attempts to generalize similarities, style changes and development of snuff bottles from Kangxi to Qianlong eras in comparison with the Imperial archives (養心殿造辦處各作成做活計清檔) and the objects from Nation Palace Museum and the Palace Museum. (3) Shaping the cultural meanings of snuff bottles: With the analysis of the documentation and related visual images, this chapter aims to examine the relationship between snuff bottles and their underlying social meanings, as well as reconstruct the process of how snuff bottles became a part of the Chinese culture. Finally, this study projects the culture of snuff bottles in the Qing dynasty onto a global interaction platform from the seventeenth to eighteenth centuries. By comparing snuff bottles from different areas of the world, their forms and symbolism could be further integrated to the construction of global history. |
