The traditional dairy farming industry in Taiwan mainly relies on manual feeding and monitoring of cattle health. This study explores the main benefits of automatic monitoring systems for the dairy industry. The case farm introduced the Electronic Neck-Mounted Sensor (ENMS) automation system in 2018 to provide cattle activies, estrus and rumination data detected in 24 hours as well as to assist the farm management to pay attention to the estrus cattle which the management can master the right time of breeding, improve the breeding efficiency, shorten the calving interval of cattle. According to the actual use of ENMS data in individual case, it can be found that system can not only promote the management efficiency of in various cattle groups and raw milk quality, but use the system to momitor on-going the status of the whole herd or the health control. The study case has accumulated more than two years of data that can be analyzed the specific benefits of the farm at the operational level, such as increasing the number of daily cows, milk production, etc.. Through the perspective of financial management, such as calculating the Net Present Value (NPV) and Internal rate of return (IRR) of investing in new equipment as a reference for the benefit evaluation of daily farmers and as a basis for the government to formulate counseling policies. The study proposes policy recommendations. First, encouraging dairy farmers to apply computerized feeding and health management to herds. Second, the government assists dairy farmers in obtaining low-interest bank loans to promote the introduction of electronic automation equipment. |
