dc.description.abstractMediterranean and Indian restaurant owners have expressed a need for higher quality specialty ingredients, and are willing to pay higher costs for better quality. Additionally, “hummus”, a Mediterranean health food made primarily from chickpeas, is readily available in supermarkets in Europe and North America, but hasn’t been introduced to Asian countries such as Taiwan, China, and Japan. Finally, there is a growing trend among Taiwanese people leaving Taiwan in order jobs with higher salaries, and better working environments.
This business plan intends to address all three issues; import quality Mediterranean and Indian ingredients, later using them to produce hummus for sale in Taiwan, all while establishing a company paying higher than average wages in a working environment employees are eager to participate in. As a value add, the established company will source ingredients from multiple suppliers in order to create a resilient supply chain, and a just in time logistics system at local warehouses in order to insure customers can depend on the company.
In order to assess the viability of such an undertaking, analytical tools such as a Porter’s Five Forces model and SWOT analysis are utilized. The business plan includes an in depth marketing plan, operational plan, and financial plan, detailing how the above products and services will be rendered. A detailed human resources plan is also included, providing a framework for employee training and guidance for leadership in order to establish and develop an energized working environment.
By combining all of these elements, an effective and profitable import company can be established, providing quality ingredients to foreign restaurant owners, an international health food to consumers, and a working environment young Taiwanese would be excited to be part of.
